*January 20 - Alexander the Great forces the Persian Gates, leaving the way open into Persis, the Persian homeland.
*January 30 - Alexander enters Persepolis, the ceremonial Persian capital, which is burned.
*June - Darius III, Alexander's opponent, leaves Ecbatana, fleeing Alexander's advance
*July 17 - Darius is murdered by supporters of his lieutenant Bessus, who proclaims himself King Artaxerxes V. Alexander pursues the murderers of Darius into northeastern Persia.
*November - Philotas is executed for plotting against Alexander. Philotas's father, Parmenion, principal lieutenant to both Alexander and his father, is murdered at Alexander's orders for fear that he would rise up in revolt at news of his son's death.
*Atropates becomes the satrap of Media.
*Mithrenes gets appointed by Alexander as satrap of Armenia.
