Alpha Delta Gamma

Alpha Delta Gamma National Fraternity (ΑÎ"Î", also known as ADG or Alpha Delt) is a National Catholic Social Fraternity. It is a member organization of the North-American Interfraternity Conference and was founded at Loyola University, Chicago in 1924. The fraternity considers St. Ignatius Loyola as its patron.

In 1924, while riding on the Chicago 'L' four students from Loyola University came up with an idea to create a new fraternity on their campus. This new fraternity would embrace the ideals of the Roman Catholic Church and the Society of Jesus. On October 10 Francis Patrick Canary, John Joseph Dwyer, William S. Hallisey and James Collins O'Brien, Jr. founded Alpha Delta Gamma. The fraternity's ideals are can often be summed up by the "Five S's":
*Spiritual
*Scholastic
*Service
*School Spirit
*Social

To this day, Alpha Delta Gamma has remained a small fraternity. A big selling point for the fraternity is its intimate size where brothers are known by "name not number." Most chapters are located in Catholic Universities.

Trivia

Some of the information in this } may not be verified by as as would be preferred. It should be checked for inaccuracies and modified as needed, citing more reliable sources.

In 1994 the original photo of the founding fathers was deftly swiped from the Mother House (Alpha Chapter, Loyola University of Chicago) by a Chi Chapter Alumni. Absonding with the photo is a highly dangerous and difficult task. The Chi Alumnus got the Alpha Chapter active members intoxicated, and waited until they passed out. The (large) photo was then carried to the waiting vehicle of an alumnus of Xi Chapter, and transported to his reinforced bunker outside in Racine, WI. Members of Eta Chapter provided assistance in the caper without advance knowledge of their role. The photo was returned after Alpha Chapter members made a humiliating trek to Wisconsin to seek its return. The reallocation of the photo is the only successful attempt since the fraternity was founded. All previous attempts have resulted in severe beatings leveled on those who sought to take the photo.
