Ardrishaig

Ardrishaig (pronounced "ar-drishig") is a lochside village at the southern (eastern) entrance to the Crinan Canal in west Scotland, in Argyll. Historically, this was once used as a smuggling point.

The village is located on the side of a hill bordering Loch Fyne immediately to the south of the town of Lochgilphead. It has a pier, a lighthouse, a couple of pubs, antiques shops and hotels. (the popular Grey Gull Hotel being one) British Waterways has an office here. In the 1970s, the village was severely disfigured when the old row of houses and shops on the lochside of the main street were demolished to make way for a car park. This unfortunately has irreversibly changed the feel of this once pretty village. Most trading takes place now in its neighbouring town Lochgilphead.

Claim to Fame:

John Smith, former Labour MP, was from Ardrishaig.

Was a filming location for the television series A Mug's Game.
