Attrition means wearing down by friction or grinding and may refer to the following.

In military science:
*Attrition warfare, the military strategy of wearing down the enemy by continual losses in personnel and material.
*War of Attrition, a limited war fought between Egypt and Israel from 1968 to 1970
*Battle of attrition, a military engagement in which neither side has any tactical advantage

In other uses:
