Bakersfield High School
Bakersfield High School is a
high school located in
Bakersfield, California.
First founded in
1893 as Kern County High School, changed to Kern County Union High School in
1915, and finally to Bakersfield High School in
1945. Most of the original
architecture has been demolished and replaced by new structures to accommodate the growing number of students over the years. The official mascot is the Driller. The school recently celebrated its 110th anniversary by opening an on-site museum, Art gallery, and Football hall of fame. The school is famous not only for its prominent football heritage, but also for the network of tunnels and bomb shelters that trace under the entire campus, remnants of a Cold War era fear of nuclear attack.
