Balinese language



Balinese is the language spoken by people in the island of Bali, Indonesia. It is spoken by 3.8 million people approximately 2.1% of Indonesia's population. It is spoken in Bali, in Lombok and in Java mostly by the Balinese people. It is written with the Balinese script and the Latin script.

Balinese is part of the Austronesian language family, and is closely related to the Sasak language and languages on western Sumbawa.

Balinese has different levels depending on the status of the people speaking it -- low, middle, and high. Kawi is a related priestly language.
