Berengar

Berengar was the name of two related rulers of northern Italy in the 10th century.
*Berengar of Friuli was King of Italy from 888 (though there were rival claimaints) until his death in 924. He was crowned emperor by the Pope in 915.
*Berengar of Ivrea, sometimes called Berengar II of Italy, was King of Italy from 950 to 961. He was the son of Berengar of Friuli's daughter Gisela.

It was also the name of a 9th century nobleman, an uncle of the aforementioned Berengar of Friuli:
*Berengar of Toulouse (died 835), called the Wise, was count of Toulouse (from 816) and Barcelona (from 832).

The name was shared by 11th century theologian Berengar of Tours.
* Counts of Barcelona and later their descendant counts of Provence utilized the name with that of Raymond/Ramon:Raymond Berenger of Provence, Ramon Berenguer of Barcelona and Berenguer Ramon of Barcelona were each names of several distinct but related individuals.
