Biennio rosso

The Biennio rosso (English: "two red years") were two years, 1919 and 1920, of political agitation by many Italian workers. In Turin, workers councils were formed, and factories were taken over by their workers. The "two red years" of 1919 and 1920 were followed by the "two black years", or "biennio nero", of 1921 and 1922, with the March on Rome by Benito Mussolini and his fascist supporters taking place in 1922.
