Robert Einstein, better known as
Bob Einstein (born
November 20,
1942, in
Los Angeles, California) is an
actor and comedy
writer best known for his portayal of the fictional stuntman
Super Dave Osborne. His parents were
Harry Parke and
Thelma Leeds. His younger brother is actor
Albert Brooks, and his older brother, Cliff Einstein, is an advertising executive.
Einstein got his start writing for
The Smothers Brothers Variety Hour for which he won an
Emmy Award. The writing team also included, among others,
Steve Martin. He also appeared on the show as Officer Judy.
His best-known character, Super Dave, made his first appearance on
The John Byner Comedy Hour, a
1972 TV series, was a regular on the
1980 TV series
Bizarre and was a frequent guest on
Late Night With David Letterman. In
1987 he got his own variety show named
Super Dave, followed in
1992 by the
animated series Super Dave's All Stars that aired on
FOX. Einstein starred in a
movie released in 2000,
The Extreme Adventures of Super Dave.
Following his Super Dave success, he had recurring roles as "Marty Funkhouser" in
Curb Your Enthusiasm and Larry Mittleman in the third season of
Arrested Development. He is also featured on the Comedy Central show
Crank Yankers as obnoxious district selectman Tony Deloge.
