Boone County is a
county located in the
U.S. state of
Missouri. As of 2000, the population was 135,454. Its
county seat is
Columbia. The county was organized in
1820 and named for frontiersman
Daniel Boone.
According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,790
km² (691
mi²). 1,775 km² (685 mi²) of it is land and 15 km² (6 mi²) of it (0.85%) is water.

married couples living together, 10.40% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.90% were non-families. 28.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the county the population was spread out with 22.80% under the age of 18, 19.90% from 18 to 24, 29.90% from 25 to 44, 18.80% from 45 to 64, and 8.60% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 93.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $37,485, and the median income for a family was $51,210. Males had a median income of $33,304 versus $25,990 for females. The
per capita income for the county was $19,844. About 7.60% of families and 14.50% of the population were below the
poverty line, including 12.10% of those under age 18 and 5.90% of those age 65 or over.
