Burton Coggles
Burton Coggles (full name Burton-le-Coggles from Byrton-en-les-Coggles) is a small village located south of
Grantham in south
Lincolnshire, close to the B1176 and the
East Coast Main Line. There are 43 houses and the population is little over 100. Until recently the village still retained a
post office, but public services are now restricted to the Cholmeley Arms
public house (still commonly known as The Hare & Hounds - the house's previous name), and a small village hall. Local services are found in
Corby Glen. The village is mainly an
agriculture village, but there has been a shift in recent years towards more
commuting, with many people working in nearby towns.
The church is St
Thomas a Becket.
William Ayscough, the
Trinity College-educated brother of
Hannah Ayscough, was the rector of the village church in the
1600s.
