Butts County is a
county located in the
U.S. state of
Georgia. It was created on December 24, 1825. As of 2000, the population was 19,522. It is part of the
Atlanta metropolitan area. The
county seat is
Jackson, Georgia6.
According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 492
km² (190
mi²). 483 km² (187 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (3 mi²) of it (1.79%) is water.
As of the
census2 of 2000, there were 19,522 people, 6,455 households, and 4,867 families residing in the county. The
population density was 40/km² (105/mi²). There were 7,380 housing units at an average density of 15/km² (40/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 69.22%

The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.15.
In the county the population was spread out with 24.10% under the age of 18, 9.20% from 18 to 24, 33.00% from 25 to 44, 23.50% from 45 to 64, and 10.20% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 114.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 117.80 males.
