Château Montrose

Château Montrose label from the 1996 vintage

Château Montrose is a Second Growth in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 and is one of the most prestigious wine producers in France. The vineyard is in Saint-Estèphe, the northernmost of the great Médoc communes. The soil in Montrose's 168 acres consists of gravel and black sand with a subsoil of clay and marl. They are planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Wine competitions

Château Montrose has been entered in several wine competitions that rank-order their results: Paris Wine Tasting of 1976 (#3 in field of 10); Wine Spectator Wine Tasting of 1986 (#6 of 10); French Culinary Institute Wine Tasting of 1986 (#3 of 9); and The Wine Rematch of the Century (#7 of 10).
