Dalton, Richmond, North Yorkshire

Dalton is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire in the UK, about six miles northwest of Richmond within the council district of Richmondshire and close to the A66 transpennine trunk road. It was listed in the Domesday book. The Dalton parish boundary includes the village itself as well the houses at Dalton Heights (off the road to Newsham) plus numerous surrounding farms. The population of the parish was 147 according to the 2001 census.

It is the location of the Dalton & Gayles Village Hall which is shared with the neighbouring village of Gayles. The village pub, 'The Traveller's Rest' is noted for its restaurant. There was once a village post office & shop; however, this has been closed for many years and has been converted into a house. The village CofE church, St James's, was built in 1897. The former methodist chapel has been closed for many years and is in the process of being converted into a house. There are a number of Bed and Breakfasts and holiday cottages for rent.
