Dave Coulier
David "Dave" Lee Coulier (born
September 21,
1959) is an
American television and
voice actor from
Detroit, Michigan, best known for his role as
Joey Gladstone on
Full House.
Coulier graduated in
1977 from
Notre Dame High School in
Harper Woods, Michigan. Coulier got his start in high school doing stand-up during the lunch hours and impersonating the principal over the school PA system.
Currently he is a member of
Duck's Breath Mystery Theater touring
comedy troupe (which he claims is clean comedy but not quite as wholesome as
Full House) as well as host of the series
Animal Kidding. He also hosted
America's Funniest People and
Opportunity Knocks.
In addition to
Full House, Coulier starred in the children's comedy series
Out of Control and appeared on
George and Leo and
Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher.
Coulier has done extensive voice work for shows including
Extreme Ghostbusters,
The Real Ghostbusters and
Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters (taking over the character of Peter Venkman after
Lorenzo Music's departure from the role),
Muppet Babies (Baby
Animal, Baby
Bunsen, and
Bean Bunny),
Scooby and Scrappy-Doo,
The Jetsons,
Rude Dog and the Dweebs,
Detention, and
Teen Titans .
He also appeared in
The Even Stevens Movie (where he had a
cameo as a
game show host) and
The Thirteenth Year. Additionally, he was also a voice actor in
Yogi Bear and the Magical Flight of the Spruce Goose.
An avid fan of the
Detroit Red Wings, Coulier was a member of the Celebrity All-Stars
hockey squad, along with
Jason Priestley,
Matthew Perry,
Alan Thicke,
Michael J. Fox,
Michael Keaton, and
Richard Dean Anderson. He also was part of the
2002 NHL All-Star Celebrity Challenge. Coulier was married for two years to
Jayne Modean and has one son.
He also founded his own children's entertainment company
F3 Entertainment in
2000.
*He is good friends with famous bounty hunter Duane "Dog The Bounty Hunter" Chapman and even attended his recent wedding in Hawaii.
*Coulier was alleged to be
Alanis Morissette's first lover (They met at a hockey game.) and is widely suspected to be the subject of her bitter song "
You Oughta Know," though neither party will confirm this. (See [
1].)
*He introduced co-star
Candace Cameron to
Valeri Bure; they later married.
*Coulier was one of the stars on the third season of
VH1's
reality show The Surreal Life.
*He provides a voice-match of
Richard Pryor in his movies when profanity is used, in order to replace profane words with cleaner ones.
*Coulier participated in Fox's
Skating with Celebrities, partnered with Olympic Silver Medalist (figure skating)
Nancy Kerrigan. The pair was eliminated in the fourth episode.
*He is popular for his imitations of various celebrities (
Richard Pryor,
Bill Murray,
Joe Pesci,
Bill Cosby,
Eddie Murphy,
Ranger Joe,
Patrick Ewing, etc.).
*His famous tagline is "Come on now, cut-it-out!," complete with hand motions and voices. He introduced it while on the comedy show
Out of Control but used it regularly on
Full House.
*He substituted for
Lorenzo Music as the voice of
Garfield on
Garfield and Friends for a few episodes when Music was ill.
*He remains close with his
Full House castmates. He sometimes tours on the stand-up circut with
Bob Saget, though Saget's comedy is raunchy and vulgar while Coulier's is more family-oriented.
*He plays guitar and harmonica.
*He is often mistaken for
Jeff Daniels for the role of Harry Dunne in
Dumb and Dumber.
*He served as a guest panelist on the 2000 revival of television game show
To Tell the Truth.
Coulier is divorced and has one son. His ex-wife played a guest starring role on Full House as grown up Michelle in the episode "Those Better Not Be the Days".
