David Palmer (vocalist)
David Palmer is an
American vocalist and songwriter.
He first sang with a group called the Quinames Band, which cut an album for Elektra Records before disbanding.
He was a vocalist on the first two
Steely Dan albums. He also co-wrote a number of songs with
Carole King.
David Palmer sang lead on some of the tracks on Can't Buy A Thrill, Steely Dan's first album, at the insistence of ABC Records executives, but was relegated to backing vocals on their subsequent release, Countdown To Ecstasy, while Donald Fagen took over as lead vocalist. Palmer left the band after the second album.
After his exit from Steely Dan, Palmer went on to work with Tony Nuccio, as a songwriter, and he later worked with Wha-Koo (which put out three albums before disbanding).
