Edward Rutherfurd, suggested
pseudonym for "Francis Edward Wintle" (born
1948), is the
author of a series of
novels chronicling the history of settlements through their development up to modern day, mixing fictional characters and families with real people and events – a kind of
historical fiction pioneered by
James Michener.
He was born in
Salisbury,
England, educated at the universities of
Cambridge and
Stanford, and previously worked in
publishing. Rutherfurd settled near
Dublin,
Ireland, in the early
1990s.
