Ellis County is a
county located in the
U.S. state of
Texas. As of 2000, the population was 111,360. Its
county seat is
Waxahachie6. This county is part of the
Metroplex and lies just south of
Dallas County. Ellis County is named for
Richard Ellis, president of the convention that produced the
Texas Declaration of Independence.
According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,465
km² (952
mi²). 2,434 km² (940 mi²) of it is land and 30 km² (12 mi²) of it (1.23%) is water.

The average household size was 2.96 and the average family size was 3.31.
In the county, the population was spread out with 30.20% under the age of 18, 9.30% from 18 to 24, 29.80% from 25 to 44, 21.50% from 45 to 64, and 9.20% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 98.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.40 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $50,350, and the median income for a family was $55,358. Males had a median income of $37,613 versus $26,612 for females. The
