FATE (Chrono Cross)

FATE is a super computer created by Belthasar in the distant future. FATE is self-aware and can operate alone. After Chronopolis was hurled back in time, FATE secured the control of the Military Time Lab. The creation of the super computer is not fully explained in the game, but it is the opinion of most that it was created to analyze the data output of the experiments that took place in Chronopolis.

After the Time Crash, Chronopolis was pulled back in time by Lavos. Meanwhile, the planet pulled back Dinopolis and the Dragon God, the city of Azala's descendants to maintain the balance. A huge battle took place but eventually FATE won. After that, he used the power of the Frozen Flame to divide the Dragon God into six less powerful forms and sealed them away.

After Serge came into contact with the Frozen Flame, a stand-alone program sealed the Flame so not even FATE could access it. And so, the computer set itself on a quest to remove all obstacles. Wazuki, Serge's father fell under the influence of FATE and became, Lynx. Eventually, Lynx managed to release the Flame's lock, but FATE was destroyed shortly thereafter.

One of the most important aspects of FATE is that it guides the lives of everyone through the Records of Fate. Through neurological connections they are able to simulate emotions in humans and lead them to different decisions than they would normally take; this is to prevent any contact with the Zenan Mainland, in order for FATE to have the least impact possible in the past so she can ensure her existence in the future.
