FIPS place code

FIPS place codes are a U.S. Federal Information Processing Standard for geographic coding of human settlements in the United States. They are used in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and are also used in this encyclopedia. The current standard is FIPS 55-3.

The table is considered too large to include in the encylopedia except for the entries for regions having 0, or ten or fewer sub-regions. The external links at the bottom contain a reference to where the full table can be directly downloaded, if desired. The links below include the list of states and counties (boroughs and census areas in Alaska, parishes in Louisiana) in each state. Regions having no entries, or having 10 or fewer entries are listed below this table on this page.
