Fuji music
Fuji is a style of popular
Nigerian music, popularized in the early
1970s by a performer like
Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. It arose from the improvisation
Ajisari tradition, which is a kind of
Muslim music performed to wake believers in the morning during
Ramadan. Barrister founded Fuji music after transforming were, as the music was known and with the likes of Alhaji Ayinla Kollington modernized the style in the early 1970s, and it grew steadily popular through the ensuing two decades. In the early 1980's, Alhaji King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall emerged after tutulage under Ayinde Barrister, and through the early 1990's he added youthful vigour into it. By the end of the
1990s, it was one of the most popular genres in the country.Popular fuji musicians in Nigeria now include the likes of,Pasuma wonder,Obesere, konkolo, Adewale Ayuba, Shaeed Osupa, Remi Aluko and many others. Most fuji musicians originate from the Mushin area of Lagos (popularly known as 'moon shine'). Fuji music is getting a wide recognition even amongst the young people as it's been featured alongside Nigerian hip hop music. Many Nigerian hip hop artists including Tony Tetuila, feature Pasuma, a frontline Young fuji musician in their works.
Today, Alhaji Sulaiman Alao Adekunle is known as the King of the new Generation (Ks1). The new fuji musicians that are the new generation include Tope nautica, Remi Aluko, Murhi Thunder, Safejo Amama, Shanko Rasheed among others. But now the new otunba of fuji music who was formerly the crown prince of fuji, and also is said to be the next king of fuji music by the king of fuji music himself, K1 de Ultimate. Who said in one of his live records that when he retires Wasiu Alabi would become the king of fuji music. Which means we will be having two kings Ks1 (king of new generation) and K1 (the king of Fuji music) and possibly Shanko becomes the king of the latest generation.Fuji musicians are now enlightened such that even their album titles are unique for example,Pasuma who formerly gave his album titles such as orobokibo,computer,the man now gives his albums meaningful titles such as Judgement (giving the last judgement) Superiority and unique(telling all other fuji musicians that he is superior and unique) and fuji motion (moving fuji music with style)
