}Fulton County is a county located in the state of Ohio, United States. As of 2000, the population was 42,084. Its county seat is Wauseon6 and is named for Robert Fulton, inventor of the steamboat.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,055 km² (407 mi²). 1,054 km² (407 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (1 mi²) of it (0.13%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there were 42,084 people, 15,480 households, and 11,687 families residing in the county. The population density was 40/km² (104/mi²). There were 16,232 housing units at an average density of 15/km² (40/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 95.65% White, 0.24% Black or African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.31% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 5.76% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 15,480 households out of which 37.10% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.20% were married couples living together, 8.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.50% were non-families. 21.10% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.40% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the county the population was spread out with 28.30% under the age of 18, 7.70% from 18 to 24, 28.70% from 25 to 44, 22.60% from 45 to 64, and 12.70% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 95.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.30 males.The median income for a household in the county was $44,074, and the median income for a family was $50,952. Males had a median income of $36,180 versus $25,137 for females. The per capita income for the county was $18,999. About 4.00% of families and 5.40% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.10% of those under age 18 and 4.60% of those age 65 or over.
