Garden City Christian Church
Garden City Christian Church is a large
pentecostal church situated in
Mt. Gravatt, a suburb of
Brisbane,
Queensland. It is affiliated with the
Assemblies of God (AOG) in
Australia.
The church was founded in
1955 by Pastor Garnett Budge, with notable other pastors including controversial Pastors Reginald Klimionok and Jim Williams. Under the leadership of Pastor Klimionok, the church undertook much growth. That particular period of growth ended as controversy mounted regarding allegations of financial embezzelment with regards to Pastor Klimionok. The church's current pastor,
Bruce Hills, took office on January 2, 2000 and is the current Senior Pastor. Bruce Hills has over 20 years experience in the ministry, including holding the office of Associate Pastor (and earlier Youth Pastor) of
Richmond Assembly of God, director of Youth Alive Victoria and he was previously Principal of
Southern Cross Bible College in
Richmond,
Melbourne. He also has extensive overseas
ministry experience and is respected in pentecostal circles as a "
Holy Spirit-inspired" minister. Its Associate
Pastor (2IC) is Steve Dixon, originally from the
UK.
Sunday services are held at 8:00am, 10:30am, and 6:00pm. Services at the church fit into a stereotypical modern pentecostal service, involving contemporary
worship, announcements and preaching. The church and its current pastor are also known for their pentecostal theological
orthodoxy (eg the rejection of "
Word of Faith" theology), while staying culturally and biblically relevant.
The Church has approximately 50 staff, who facilitate the running of
