Gimp (sadomasochism)

Gimp is a usually derogatory term used to refer to a (normally male) sexual submissive person, typically dressed in black leather (or rubber) and wearing a bondage hood or mask of the same material. This apparel emphasises sexuality by drawing attention to the crotch and chest, and also sexually objectifies the wearer. Sadomasochistic practice often features in the notion of the gimp, with a partnership between gimp and dominatrix or dominant.

In Popular Culture

*In the film Pulp Fiction an un-named gimp kept in the basement of two homosexual rapists was prominently featured. A track on the film soundtrack has one of the rapists saying "Bring out the gimp".
*In Robot Chicken, a gimp was featured in episode # 1.19 "That Hurts Me", in the Huggytime Bears bit. In the bit, Douglas Goldstein was reincarnated as a Huggytime Bear which closely resembles the Care Bears. He sets on fire the Celtic Bear and as punishment the Gimp Bear is brought out.
* The webcomic Ghastly's Ghastly Comic features two characters in gimp masks: 'Gimp Girl', a permanent submissive 'owned' by Zsa Zsa who speaks only in emoticons, and 'Zipper Ninja', a fantasy identity of the innocent young tentacle monster child Peep, who is unaware of the sexual nature of the mask (which he had found in Smokey's 'toy box' by accident).
* In Drawn Together episode #104 "Requiem for a Reality Show", an unnamed character (actually a cameo of Charlie Brown) is shown wearing a gimp mask and being led on a leash by Foxxy Love, who ends the scene by pulling on the chain and saying, "Come on, blockhead, Foxxy's gonna show you some good grief!"
* In season 5 episode 5 of Scrubs , My New God, Dr. Kelso mentions that his gay son, Harrison, dabbles in sado-masochism and has a new gimp named Barry (or possibly Larry). He also mentions that as he gets older, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of Harrison's gimps. Another episode of Scrubs has a scene where Dr Cox and Jordan are dressed in bondage gear and have a gimp chained up.
*In the game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, there is a gimp in one of the missions, in which you have to get rid of him and take his dominatrix girlfriend. The main character can then wear the Gimp suit.
*The UK's musical schlockomedy theatrical crew, the Komedy Kollective, are known for turning up at theatre press nights in gimp masks, and are known as the Gimp Guerilla Army [1]
*In the PC game, Postal², your character (the postal dude) is forced to wear the gimp costume during a scene, which is taken from Pulp Fiction.
*Another famous gimp is Jess Fox, or more commonly known as "Gandolf" or "Gandolf the Gimp". She appeared in many 90's gimp-themed pornography films.
*In The Lord of the Rings films, the white spandex outfit that Andy Serkis wore while playing Gollum was referred to by cast and crew as the Gimp Suit.
