Gore, Oklahoma
Gore is a town in
Sequoyah County,
Oklahoma,
United States. It is part of the
Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma
Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 850 at the 2000 census. The town was originally known as "Campbell," but later changed its name in honor of Oklahoma Senator Thomas Gore, a distant relative of Albert Gore, Sr., the Tennessee Senator and father of U.S. Vice President Al Gore.
Gore is the
trout capital of
Oklahoma, with great fishing in
Lake Tenkiller, the
Illinois River.

census of 2000, there were 850 people, 368 households, and 257 families residing in the town. The
population density was 143.9/km² (372.4/mi²). There were 416 housing units at an average density of 70.4/km² (182.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 68.59%

Native American, 0.12% from
other races, and 6.47% from two or more races.
Hispanic or
Latino of any race were 0.82% of the population.
There were 368 households out of which 28.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.0% were
married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.9% were non-families. 26.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.78.
In the town the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 21.9% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.7 males.
