Green Bridge, Brisbane

Green Bridge nearing completion, July 2006

Green Bridge Under Construction

The Green Bridge, due for completion in early 2007, will be Australia's first bridge designed for the exclusive use of buses, bicycles and pedestrians. The construction of the bridge has included the creation of a new road through Dutton Park and the expansion of Annerley Road. The bridge will be a 400 metre cable-stay bridge providing a dedicated bus corridor, cycle path, pedestrian walkway and new UQ bus station.

Another related proposal is called the Boggo Road Busway, which would link the Green Bridge with the CityTrain network at Park Road station and beyond through to the South-East Busway. The bridge will be most useful to southside commuters travelling to the University of Queensland's main St Lucia campus, thereby easing congestion on Coronation Drive and other roads.

Naming of the Bridge

The name of the bridge, as of 2006, is undecided but six names have been officially proposed:
* Eleanor Schonell Bridge
* Green Bridge
* Harmony Bridge
* Hawken Bridge
* Mayne Bridge
* University Bridge
