Heroes (TV series)
A
Japanese office worker discovers that he can
manipulate time and space. A struggling
New York artist can paint the future but only whilst he is using heroin. A discontented
police officer in
Los Angeles can
hear the thoughts of others. A
high school cheerleader discovers she
recovers from any injury and a single mom realizes she has "a powerful alter ego". The premise is that these people have a role in "saving humankind".
According to the
NBC website,
not only do the characters discover what having superpowers means to them, but also uncover a larger picture of the origin of their superpowers. The characters eventually become involved in each other's lives as they attempt to evade the series antagonist. The antagonist wishes to harness their "super DNA" for his own ends. Together, they must find a way to save the world.

Rising Stars also deal with how the rest of the world reacts to newly superpowered individuals, and the political consequences of the changes.
* The
Wild Cards series of books deals with regular people trying to deal with inhuman (but not always superhuman) abilities.
* In film,
M. Night Shyamalan's movie
Unbreakable also treats the birth of a superhero as its subject matter.
*On television, "
The 4400", details a universe in which 4400 people gain powers, although calling many of these people superheroes is debatable.
*Comic book writer
Jeph Loeb (
Superman/Batman) has signed on as a writer/co-executive producer.
*The paintings made by Isaac were created for the show by comic book artist
Tim Sale. Sale is well known for his collaborations with writer
Jeph Loeb.
