As of the
census of 2000, there were 19,297 people, 5,636 households, and 4,903 families residing in the city. The
population density was 3,028.7/km² (7,845.8/mi²). There were 5,848 housing units at an average density of 917.9/km² (2,377.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 88.41%

The average household size was 3.38 and the average family size was 3.56.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.1 males.
