(1998) |High On The Hog was the eleventh album by Canadian-American rockers The Band, and arguably the weakest of their career. As with its predecessor, 1993's Jericho, it relies heavily on covers (just two tracks are original), but the result was quite different the second time around- the material, for the most part, simply does not suit the group, though they try to make it do just that.

Highlights, though, are still plenty. They include a cover of Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" (a song they originally backed Dylan on), done as a tribute to Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead, Blondie Chaplin's "Where I Should Always Be", a song in the tradition of "Whispering Pines" (from the 1969 eponymous album), the cover of Johnnie Johnson and The Kentucky Headhunters' "Back to Memphis", which soars with layers of horns by Garth Hudson and the strange, strange album closer "Ramble Jungle", featuring an ancient Champion Jack Dupree growling out the barely intelligible vocals on a pastiche of African music.

The British and Japanese pressings of the album closed with a different track, "Young Blood", which only appeared in the United States on a tribute album to Doc Pomus.
