HMS Active

Eleven ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Active:
* The first Active, launched in 1758, was a 28-gun sixth-rate captured in 1778 by the French off San Domingo during the American Revolutionary War.
* The second Active, launched in 1776, was a 14-gun brig-sloop captured in 1780 by the Americans off New York.
* The third Active was a 12-gun cutter captured in 1779 by the French cutter Le Mutin in the English Channel.
* The fourth Active was a 32-gun fifth-rate, launched in 1780 and wrecked in 1796 on the Saint Lawrence River.
* The fifth Active was a 14-gun brig-sloop listed in 1782.
* The sixth Active was a 38-gun fifth-rate launched in 1799, renamed Argo in 1833 and broken up in 1860.
* The seventh Active was a 36-gun fifth-rate launched in 1845, renamed Tyne in July 1867 and Durham in November 1867, and sold in 1908.
* The eighth Active, launched in 1869, was a Volage-class iron screw corvette, sold in 1906.
* The ninth Active, launched in 1911, was the lead ship of her class of scout cruiser. She served in World War I and was scrapped in 1920.
* The tenth Active (H14), launched in 1928, was an A-class destroyer. She served in World War II, taking part in the sinking of three submarines. She was broken up in 1947.
* The eleventh Active (F171), launched in 1972, was a Type 21 frigate. She served in the Falklands War. She was sold to the Pakistan Navy in 1994 and renamed Shah Jehan.
