HMS Activity

The HMS Activity was an aircraft carrier which served with the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom during World War II.

Description

* Displacement: 11,800 tons
* Speed: 18 knots
* Aircraft: 15
* Armament: 4 x 4 inch dual-purpose guns
** Shell weight: 35 pounds
** Range: 19,000 yards
** Ceiling: 39,000 feet

The Activity was a cargo ship converted in the United Kingdom for use as an escort carrier for convoys in the Arctic Ocean. Similar to the Bogue class escort carriers of the United States, British construction was deemed more durable for Arctic convoy protection, as the extreme cold proved capable of creating cracks in American welded vessels.
