HMS Leda (1800)
HMS Leda, launched in
1800, was the lead ship of a successful class of 47
British Royal Navy sailing
frigates. The
Leda was copied from a
French frigate captured in 1782. She and her sisters carried 38 guns.
HMS Shannon, the victor over the
USS Chesapeake, off
Boston, on
June 1,
1813, was a sister ship to the
Leda.
HMS Trincomalee and
HMS Unicorn, two sailing frigates that have survived to the present day, are sister ships of the
Leda. The last ship of the class was built in 1830.
