Hoshin Roshi Ryu

Hoshin Roshi Ryu Jutaijutsu is an american combative art based on American, British, French, Russian, Israeli, Chinese and Japanese traditions that is continually evolving through the skills and experiences of its teachers. It was developed by Dr. Glenn J. Morris, a Ninjutsu practitioner and writer on martial arts and meditation. Hoshin training combines meditation, self defense, chi kung, healing and "kundalini awakening".

Hoshin is based on the Godai. Each belt represents a chakra and the techniques and meditations serve to open each chakra and balance the bioenergetic functions of the body and mind. Belts are not of singular importance in Hoshin. They are reflections of accomplishments and knowledge, and are based on the godai of ninpo as well as the chakra of esoteric yoga. The system is American and taught in English. The ranks are similar to the Japanese with colored belts representing kyu grades, with stars showing divisions of knowledge within the grades, and a black belt with stripes or stars representing levels of dan grading. The circular patch indicates a ryu member. Senior instructors may wear a blue gi top.

Hoshinjutsu training enables students to easily handle themselves in any type of situation. The moves are based on leverage and simple movements, as opposed to athleticism or physical strength, meant for neutralizing the size and strength advantages of the attacker. Hoshin has always emphasized development of the mind as well as the body. Reading the works of the masters, studying strategy, exploring anatomy and physiology in developing healing skills are included in the regular curriculum along with the physical techniques of combat. Kindness and consideration towards others is just as important in Hoshin as the defense skills the student learns in class.
