Infraero is a Brazilian government corporation created in 1970, that is responsible for administering the main Brazilian commercial airports. As of 2004, Infraero administers 66 airports. In 2003, Infraero's airports carried approximately 250 million passengers. Infraero is a very profitable company.
Some major Brazilian airports are not controlled by Infraero, generally military airports. Some commercial airports of relative importance are also not controlled by Infraero.
Commercial airports
Commercial airports not controlled by Infraero are a government (public) responsibility. Generally, the municipality of the city where the airport serves or is located is responsible for the funding and maintenance of these airports (or, in rare cases, a private company is given responsibility by the municipality to be responsible for the airport; in this case, any profit stays with the private company). Also, Infraero does not exert any power in private-owned air fields. *Cascavel - Cascavel Regional Airport *Chapecó - Chapecó Regional Airport *Maringá - Maringá Domestic Airport *Santa Maria - Santa Maria Regional Airport *Santarém - Santarém Domestic Airport
Military airports
Infraero does not have any sort of control or responsibility over Brazilian military airbases; they are entirely controlled by the Brazilian Ministry of Aeronautics. *Santa Maria - Military Airbase of Santa Maria
