iWeb was discovered prior to its official launch by a group of Macintosh enthusiasts. The popular Macintosh web forum,
MacRumors, was the first to release the story. A user was looking at a support page for the application
GarageBand, and noticed a list of related links towards the bottom of the page. The links were labeled iLife '06, its applications, and a seemingly new application called iWeb. The user took a screenshot of the page, and posted it to the forum. Apple quickly reverted the page to its last good edit. It was officially released by
Steve Jobs the day after, during the
Macworld Conference & Expo.
