Jasper is a town in
Marion County,
Tennessee, just 9 miles south of
Whitwell, Tennessee. The population was 3,214 at the 2000 census. It is the
county seat of
Marion County.

According to the
United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 23.7
km² (9.2
mi²). 23.4 km² (9.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (1.42%) is water.
As of the
census of 2000, there were 3,214 people, 1,299 households, and 928 families residing in the town. The
population density was 137.3/km² (355.7/mi²). There were 1,393 housing units at an average density of 59.5/km² (154.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 90.39%

married couples living together, 12.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.5% were non-families. 25.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.87.
In the town the population was spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.3 males.
