Jedi Academy
This article is about Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy. For information on the game, see Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy; for information on the novels by Kevin J. Anderson, see the Jedi Academy Trilogy.
The
Jedi Academy is a fictional training establishment in the
Star Wars universe.
In 11
ABY,
Luke Skywalker began the reconstruction of the
Jedi Order with Force-sensitive recruits he had encountered over the years since the defeat of the
Galactic Empire at
Endor. The
New Republic gave him
Yavin 4 to use as a training facility for his new Jedi apprentices.
The Jedi Academy, or
Praxeum, was first housed in the
Great Massassi Temple and had 12 original students, including
Kyle Katarn,
Brakiss,
Corran Horn,
Dorsk 81,
Gantoris,
Kam Solusar,
Kirana Ti,
Streen,
Tionne, and eventually
Cilghal,
Mara Jade and
Kyp Durron.
Cray Mingla and
Nichos Mar may also have been two of the original students.
Luke has been known to leave the Academy in times of crisis to help the
New Republic, leaving it in the capable hands of
Streen, and later Kam and Tionne Solusar.
One of the trials the Academy came up with, was when
Desann planned to use an army of
Reborn Jedi, and Shadowtroopers to invade the Academy and restore the
Galactic Empire. Through his efforts, Kyle Katarn was able to stop most of the invasion and slay Desann.
Years later,
Tavion, apprentice of Desann, returned with a
Sith Cult named the
Disciples of Ragnos. The left over reborn from Desann's project joined Tavion's cult as the '
New Reborn'. Also, Tavion made her own troops using the power from the sceptor. A major battle between the cult and the academy occurred at
Korriban, where the old sith lord
Marka Ragnos had been buried. Tavion was trying to resurrect him. But luckily the jedi stopped this from happening.
When the
Yuuzhan Vong attacked Yavin 4 and destroyed the
Massassi Temple,
Talon Karrde and
Booster Terrik helped the few Jedi Knights and the many Jedi children escape their clutches, making the
Errant Venture and then
the Maw as the home of the Jedi Academy.
Most of the Jedi in Luke's
New Jedi Order have been trained at the Academy and learned at least somewhat directly from him. The Jedi Academy, wherever it is, tends to be a base of operations for the Jedi, and sometimes a home when they are not performing other jobs for Luke or going about their personal lives.
Shortly after the war with the Vong ended, Luke established a new Praxeum on
Ossus.
The Academy is visited and appears in the games
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and ''
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.
