Kaza

A kaza, qaza, or qazaa (Ottoman Turkish قضاء /kazaː/) is an administrative unit of Turkey and the Ottoman Empire, the Ottoman pronunciation of the Arabic qadaa.

In the Republic of Turkey, a kaza is an administrative district governed by a kaymakam.

In the Ottoman Empire, it was an administrative district subject to the jurisdiction of a judge (qazi). It was a subdivision of a sanjak and corresponded roughly to a city with its surrounding villages.
