Lee Hyori
Lee Hyori (also commonly known as
Lee Hyo-Ri &
Lee Hyo-lee) was born on
May 10,
1979. She is a popular
South Korean singer and
actress.
Beginning in Fin K.L.
Lee Hyori is a member of the
Korean pop group
Fin.K.L but also went solo in
2003.
Fin.K.L stands for "Fine Killing Liberty," which loosely translates into the "fin" (the end) of "liberty killing," implying the girls will stand up against and put an end to anything that will "kill (our) liberty." The name was chosen for the band by
Daesung Entertainment even before the members were chosen. Lee Hyori, who would become the group leader as she was the oldest member, was discovered while taking sticker pictures with her friends and was actually the last to join the group, just before their launch in January
1998. Fin. K.L. debuted officially on May 22,
1998 with their first single "
Blue Rain." It was received quite well, but it was not until their second release from their first album:
To My Boyfriend, that
Fin. K.L. truly proved their popularity. "
To My Boyfriend" became the first of their numerous number one hits. Fin K.L. became one of the most popular and successful Korean groups of all-time and rivalled with fellow popular
girl group S.E.S..

Following Fin K.L.'s fourth album
Forever, Hyori launched her solo career: first as an emcee of "
Time Machine" and "
Happy Together" and then with the release of her first album,
Stylish E. Lee Hyori swept the
2003 Daesangs, the most prestigious of Korean music awards, winning more than seven 'artist of the year' awards.
Stylish E sold over 170,000 copies in Korea alone.
Lee Hyori has also appeared as the lead female actress in the SBS drama
Three Leaf Clover co-starring opposite
Ryu Jin,
Kim Jung Hwa,
Kim Kang Woo and
Lee Hoon. Hyori's popularity in her various activities eventually came to be dubbed as "Hyori Syndrome" in South Korea, and the Korean Media nicknamed
2003 "The Year of Hyori" as she was rarely out of the news all year.
Hyori's second solo album was released in February,
2006 called
Dark Angel. A digital album with Fin. K.L. which was released online mid-October 2005. On
August 8,
2005 she co-hosted the annual
Korean Music Festival for the second year running. Unfortunately, her first single from her album "Get Ya'!" was accused of plagiarizing
Britney Spears's "Do Somethin'," as proposed by the composer of the American pop star's hit. If it is confirmed that her song is guilty of plagiarism she will either have to share half or give up her entire profit raised by and related to her single. She had recently announced that she will stop promoting "Get Ya" and has since moved on to her next single, "Shall We Dance?"
