Love song

''This article is about the general concept. For other uses, see Love song (disambiguation).

Love songs are about love, usually being a romantic ballad, but can also deal with the darker side of love, such as infedelity and breaking up. Famous singers of love songs include Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Kenny Rogers, Elvis Presley, Chris De Burgh, Roy Orbison, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill and Phil Collins. Love songs are a subset of songs which deal with intimacy.

Love songs have been around for hundreds of years and can be found in most cultures. The western world uses the love song to express their feelings in a way most people would like to amongst one another. Some tribal cultures use a group love song to attract a partner in elaborate rituals. Love songs are generally more accepted & listened to by females than by males.

Love songs can be found in most media types, such as in film, particularly romance movies, in television series, on music tapes and CDs and during live performances. A love song is a common feature in most Broadway musicals, often being between the main character and the person or persons they are attracted too. Sometimes the song is shared by two suitors and a female or male love interest.

The love song has dominated almost all genres of popular music. However rebellious the form of the music, (such as punk rock, rap etc), the centrality of the "falling in love" experience seems rapidly to require expression. It is also to be noted that the position of the man is generally the one expressed in the vast majority of rock songs about love.

The love song can deal with a very large number of themes, but the "first time I met her/him" is a popular theme and is stated in many songs.
