Maynard, Massachusetts
Maynard is a town in
Middlesex County,
Massachusetts,
United States. As of the
2001 census, the town population was 10,037.
Maynard, located on the
Assabet River, was first settled in
1638 and was officially incorporated in
1871. Maynard was originally part of the towns
Stow and
Sudbury. The community was named after Amory Maynard, a local mill owner. The community grew with the Assabet Woolen Mill and made the highest percentage of wool for U.S. Military uniforms. After the mill shut down in
1950, local businessmen bought the property and began leasing it as office space.
Digital Equipment Corporation moved into the complex in
1957. The company eventually called Maynard its worldwide headquarters, giving Maynard the nickname "Mini Computer Capital of the World".
"The Mill", as locals call it, was renovated in the late 1990s as
Clock Tower Place and houses many businesses, including the worldwide headquarters of
Monster. The mill complex is also home to the oldest working hand wound clock in the country.

United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 13.9
km² (5.4
mi²). 13.6 km² (5.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (2.42%) is water.
As of the
census of 2000, there were 10,433 people, 4,292 households, and 2,811 families residing in the town. The
population density was 768.7/km² (1,990.6/mi²). There were 4,406 housing units at an average density of 324.6/km² (840.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 94.64%

Latino of any race were 2.78% of the population.
There were 4,292 households out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were
married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% were non-families. 28.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the town the population was spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 35.1% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 91.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.0 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $60,812, and the median income for a family was $71,875. Males had a median income of $49,279 versus $36,609 for females. The
per capita income for the town was $27,016. About 3.8% of families and 5.6% of the population were below the
poverty line, including 7.4% of those under age 18 and 6.0% of those age 65 or over.
