Melekeok
Melekeok is one of
Palau's sixteen
states. It is located on the west coast of Palau's largest island,
Babeldaob. Melekeok is 11 square miles in area and situated between
Ngchesar to the south and
Ngiwal to the north. It is the planned location for the new capital of Palau (move from
Koror to Melekeok in late 2006). According to the latest census 391 people presently reside in Melekeok.
Melekeok boasts the largest freshwater body of water in Palau; Lake Ngardok (493 hectares) has a small population of
saltwater crocodiles
