Midseason replacement

A midseason replacement is a television show that premieres in the second half of a television season usually between January and April. Midseason replacements usually take place after a show that was in the fall schedule was canceled or put on hiatus. Most midseason replacements get canceled just like the shows they replaced, while others get a second season or, better yet, last for a long time, such as The Simpsons, Kate & Allie, Three's Company, Eight Is Enough, The Jeffersons, Night Court, Happy Days, Perfect Strangers, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Grey's Anatomy, Malcolm in the Middle, Scrubs, and Medium.
