NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award
The
NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award is presented to the
National Basketball Association (NBA) player in the
NBA Finals that is seen as contributing the most to his team in the series. The award typically goes to a player on the winning team, though when it was originally awarded to
Jerry West in 1969, West's Lakers team had come up short against the
Boston Celtics. This would be the only year (as of
2006) that the award went to a player whose team did not win the championship.
Michael Jordan has won the award six times, more than any other player (as of 2006).
Magic Johnson is the youngest player and only rookie to be named the
NBA Finals MVP at the age of 20 years old in the
1980 NBA Finals.
