Organization of Triangles
The
Organization of the Triangles is a
Masonic Youth Organization based in the
American state of
New York.
The Organization was founded by
Rose E. Scherer in 1927 under the name
Daughters of Eastern Star, which was later changed to its current name in 1961. Scherer had originally conceived the idea of an organization for young woman based on the teaching of The
Order of the Eastern Star when she was
Grand Matron of New York in 1925. Several individual clubs were started throughout New York within that same year and each were considered 'Chapters'. By 1927, Triangles was officially organized.
The Organization's
ritual is based on the three points of the triangle. The first duty (Chaplain) is the duty to God, the second duty (Senior Lady) is the duty to others, and the third duty (Junior Lady) is the duty to ourselves. The Triangle's line goes from Chaplain > Guardian > Jr. Lady > Sr. Lady > Beloved Queen. There are 14 elected offices, and several other appointed offices.

Members wear white gowns to meetings. Gowns must be white, floor length and appropriate. PBQs (Past Beloved Queens) can wear colored gowns. PBQs also have the option of either wearing a
tiara or a sash showing their 'title'. In
upstate New York tiaras are more often worn whilst in
downstate New York sashes with the bearer's term as PBQ is worn.
During meetings members vote on issues, determine what charitable or fun activities will be conducted, and perform degrees. The requirements to join Triangle are you must be between 10 and 21, believe in a supreme being, must be either related or sponsored by a Mason/OES, be proposed by a member, pay the petition fee, and be investigated.
The State officer is called the State Representative. It's the only state office in the organisation. Junior Advisors (JA) are district offices with two year terms. There are seven districts. The JA Council plans biennial conventions, leadership weekends, runs different areas (charity, membership, ritual, etc), and helps with state programs (like Triangle of the Year). You must have been a JA for at least a year in order to be State Rep.
There are currently 13 active Triangles.
