Osceola is a city in
Clarke County,
Iowa,
United States. The population was 4,659 at the 2000 census. It is the
county seat of
Clarke County.
Amtrak, the national passenger rail system, provides service to Osceola, operating its
California Zephyr daily in both directions between
Chicago,
Illinois, and
Emeryville, California, across the bay from
San Francisco. A bus connection is available from Osceola to
Des Moines.

United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.6
km² (6.0
mi²). 15.1 km² (5.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (3.31%) is water.
As of the
census of 2000, there were 4,659 people, 1,945 households, and 1,229 families residing in the city. The
population density was 308.0/km² (798.2/mi²). There were 2,118 housing units at an average density of 140.0/km² (362.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.73%

The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.1 males.
