Porteño

Porteño is the Spanish demonym for those born in the Argentine city of Buenos Aires. In Chile, it is used also for the inhabitants of Valparaiso.

Buenos Aires locals refer to themselves as Porteños and its associated to the word puerto ("port"), because many of them originally arrived by boat from Europe and settled in the port area, as Buenos Aires was the most important port in Argentina since the beginning of the Spanish colonisation of the Americas to late in the 20th century.

Its feminine form is Porteña.It is not to be confused with the word portuario, which means "of the port", that is used for things of any given port.
