Ranelagh
Ranelagh (
Irish Raghnallach) is a residential area and urban village on the
southside of
Dublin city,
Ireland. It is in the
postal district of
Dublin 6. It is one of the city's most exclusive residential areas where house prices are second only to
Dublin 4 [
1], boasting fine
Victorian townhouses.
The district was originally a
village just outside Dublin city until it was swallowed up by the expanding city more than a century ago. It still has a village-like atmosphere with many small family-run shops, especially around the triangular intersection (
"the Triangle") that marks its centre. There are several secondary schools in the area, including
Gonzaga College and
Sandford Park. It was named after a park in London,
Ranelagh Gardens.
The green
Luas line passes through, and stops at, Ranelagh/Raghnallach.
Ranelagh is in the local government electoral area of
Rathmines and the
Dail Constituency of
Dublin South-East.
Former World snooker champion Ken Doherty is from the area and still practices in
Jason's.
