Rawze-e-Sharif

The Blue Mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif

Rawze-e-Sharif, also known as the Blue Mosque was founded in the year 1512 and has been restored and renovated over 200 times. The mosque covers hundreds of acres, it is almost as equivalent to the Alhambra mosque and museum in Granada, Spain. The mosque is located in Mazar-e-Sharif in the province of Balkh. It is said by some to be the resting place of the final caliph of Islam and the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, although it is generally believed that he is buried in Najaf, Iraq.
