RICE

RICE is an acronym that stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation, commonly used by medical professionals. When a soft tissue injury (such as a pulled muscle) occurs, it is best to use RICE to speed recovery.

Ice should be used on the injury for about 15 minutes at a time with at least 10 minutes in between. Ice helps to reduce swelling in the tissue. After the ice is removed, the injured location should be wrapped in an ace (tensor) bandage to keep the swelling down.

Heat can be added to the mix later to get the blood flowing and promote healing.
